Dato’ Ir Nitchiananthan Balasubramaniam is a civil engineer by training with a specialisation in the area of highway / transportation engineering. He has an accumulated experience of 34 years in planning, designing, leading, managing and completing small to large scale complex in frastructure projects in Malaysia and overseas.
Having graduated, in 1987, from IIT Roorkee with a BE (Civil,1st Div Hons), he joined Minconsult Sdn Bhd as a Graduate Engineer before leaving to complete his Masters degree (M.Eng.Sc) at the University of New South Wales (majoring in Highway & Transportation Engineering). He completed the said postgraduate course in Dec 1988 and rejoined Minconsult upon his return in Feb 1989 as a Graduate Highway Engineer.
In Oct 1989, he joined HSS Integrated Sdn Bhd (HSSI) as a Highway Engineer to work on two major PLUS Expressway upgrading projects.
During his 31 years with HSSI & the HSS Group, he was promoted to various positions in stages, namely Head of Highways (1994), Associate (1995), Associate Director (1996) and Chief Operating Officer in 2001. He became the Group’s Chief Executive Officer in 2011. In Aug 2016, upon listing as HSS Engineers Berhad, he was the Group’s Chief Executive Officer. He was also appointed to the board of Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) in July 2020. During his tenure at the Group, he was responsible, in 2006, for setting up CHSS, an Architectural & Engineering consulting practice in the with various projects in the MENA region. He remains a shareholder of CHSS to date.
